This is not a house

is a series of pocketbooks born out of Arian Heidari Afshari’s theoretic dialogue in written format with a handful of Architecture Professors from all over the world, from which Volume 00 explores a semiotic analysis of what “house” could signify and/ or could become for cultural and intellectual contemporary Architecture as a thinking discipline, beyond any house’s functional, programmatic composition or its necessities and limits of construction and maintenance or in general, its material culture.
Volume 00, in particular, features Prof. Jörg H. Gleiter from TU Berlin, Department of Architecture Theory, who examines Peter Eisenman’s Guardiola House at a pivotal moment in Eisenman’s career as an architect thinker. In response, Arian Heidari Afshari presents a unique perspective on Robert Venturi and John Rauch’s Lieb House, exploring the mediumistic genius found in their interpretations of what ordinariness means in the context of a polarized portrayal of post-war modernism.

Arian Heidari Afshari
(Kerman, 1984) is an Iranian Milanbased architect who received his Ph.D. in architecture, urban and interior design from the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies (DAStU), Politecnico di Milano, Italy. Since 2018, he has been an adjunct professor of architecture and urban design and theory in the School of Architecture, Urban Planning, and Construction Engineering (AUIC) at Politecnico di Milano. He is a former teaching fellow at CEPT University in Ahmedabad, India (2015-2016). He was also a visiting scholar at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, in 2019, and at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain, in 2021. During 2024, he was a visiting professor of architectural typology at TU Berlin, Germany.
