The editor Archt. Eng. Caterina Pietra intends to describe some theoretical and practical issues concerning two relevant aspects of the urban and design contemporary context. They are, specifically, urban regeneration and industrial heritage conservation.

With specific reference to Shanghai framework, after a period of fast growing of industry and production, this megacity is looking toward a constant and effective improvement of quality of life for both citizens and city users. Therefore, ‘urban regeneration’ is one of the key words that is strictly connected with: community identity, environmental quality, resilience, prevention of long or short term risks to human health.

The book discusses about conceptual and methodological aspects in the first four chapters, while the following ones regard applications and case studies aiming to compare different approaches and results.
